01-31-05: Good times at Goodfella's over the weekend. No Limitz is starting to draw a crowd of regular supporters. Thanks for coming out, guys! We're back on Saturday, February 19.
I've got miles to go before then, though. Tomorrow night it's back to Jackson Village to co-host the open mic at the Wildcat Inn and Tavern with Jeremy Dean. And next week is the busiest week I've booked EVER. Check the Shows page for dates and times.
In other news, I got a new car. Well, not new, exactly; it's a 2001, but it's new to me. I'll post a photo later on. I love it, it's the car I've wanted since I first laid eyes on it when it came out.

01-25-05: T-shirt sales are brisk. Amazing. I do have a few left, so you can still email me for details if you want one.
I was rooting through my archives last night, and I came upon a song I recorded in February of last year. I actually wrote the song about fifteen years ago, and I guess I recorded it as a test of my new (at the time, anyway) equipment. Like most songs I've written, this started with a title someone suggested to me.

Milo

Say, here's an idea. An entirely unoriginal idea, but I'll float it out there nonetheless. If you think up an interesting song title, email it to me and I'll do my best to write something for it. This was something that Narbotic used to do at the now-defunct narbotic.com, and if I understand history correctly, the idea evolved into what we now know as SongFight.
I find it only slightly troubling that I seem to need some sort of spark to write songs, be it a title, or a deadline, or something. The muse doesn't seem to visit me until I have a specific task to achieve. Still, I'm pretty happy with what's come out so far.

01-24-05: Long weekend. I stayed over in North Conway Friday and Saturday night, due to the lateness of the shows at The Red Parka Pub, and the inclement weather. The skiers should be pretty happy up there right now.
The shows were pretty good; the on-stage sound was excellent. It makes such a difference when you can hear yourself well. I like playing with the Jeremy Dean Band a lot. The material is a real departure from the rest of the stuff I do. This week, though, I'm putting the classic rock hat back on, as No Limitz will be back at Goodfella's for our monthly Friday/Saturday show.
Oh, and I got my T-shirts from the printers this weekend. They came out pretty slick. The front has the logo at the top of this page on the pocket, and the back features the locations of my shows between January and May. I'll post a photo soon. I got a very short run, and they're mostly spoken for, but if you're interested in a Jim Tyrrell Winter/Spring 2005 Tour Shirt, let me know quickly. Ten bucks will get you one, and that includes shipping. Email me and I'll give you the details.

01-20-05: I'm back with tales from the road. Jeremy and I co-hosted the open mic at the Wildcat Inn and Tavern Tuesday night. I might start doing that with him on a regular basis, every other week or so. After we finished our short opening set, a couple approached us and asked if we could play a private function the following night at a nearby inn. We settled on terms and shook hands.
So, I got home from the open mic around 2am. I had arranged to take Wednesday off from my day job to recuperate, and perhaps get a good night's sleep. Instead, I ran a few errands in the morning, and headed back up over the Kancamagus Highway to The Wentworth, a beautiful county inn. Jeremy and I played what turned out to be a small business function in one of the four-room bungalows. It all went well, and it gave us a chance to get some practice in on some new material. And I was home by 11; a relatively early night.
Today is a day of rest, sort of. I'm back at my day job, and home for the night. Tomorrow... well, tomorrow it's back across the Kanc to North Conway, for two nights at the Red Parka Pub with the Jeremy Dean Band.
In other news... it seems weird even saying something like this, but here goes. I just submitted the art for my tour shirts to the printers. Now this is purely the result of people asking me for them, mind you. I think it a bit premature to be selling tour shirts, myself. I'd think a decent CD would be a more appropriate first product, wouldn't you? But I was able to work out an affordable short-run deal, so pretty soon people will have (and hopefully exercise) the opportunity to wear a Jim Tyrrell Winter/Spring 2005 tour shirt. I actually do like the artwork on the shirt quite a bit. Details soon.

Tomorrow I travel north to Jackson Village, to co-host the open mic night at the Wildcat Inn and Tavern with Jeremy.

01-16-05: I had thought this would be an easy weekend. I was just playing the one show at the Dutch Treat on Saturday afternoon. But when I got there, I had a message to call Steve Hinchey, guitarist for No Limitz. Apparently the band that was scheduled to play at Goodfella's cancelled at the last minute, and they wanted to know if we could fill in.
I played my solo show at the Dutch Treat (which went quite well), and then I headed from there directly to Laconia for the evening show with the band. What fun! I was pretty tired driving home, though; I guess I got in around 2:30am. Fortunately, Sunday was a day of rest and recuperation. I spent the afternoon watching the New England Patriots befuddle Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts yet again. Next week's Pats/Steelers game should be great.

01-14-05: Good times up at the Dutch Treat last night. There were a lot of musicians I hadn't met before. I played a very short set, since I'll be doing a solo show there on Saturday anyway.
I booked a couple more dates with Jeremy Dean up at the Cabot Motor Inn and Motel. That pretty much fills up my weekends through the end of May. And I've got a big old iron in the fire that might take me right through the rest of the summer. I kind of thought that one day I might find myself too busy all of a sudden. I didn't think it would happen so soon, though. Fine by me, of course. And I'm still not about to quit my day job or anything. Yet.

01-12-05: My Gift Of Music submission is now complete, for better or worse. I elected to do a cover of a Sir Mix-A-Lot tune. The project required a good amount of bravery on my part, I don't mind saying. Equal amounts of bravery are required of the listener. Be warned.

My Posse's On Broadway (Sir Mix-A-Lot cover)

Open mic at the Dutch Treat in Franconia tomorrow, kids. Make the trip up if the weather gets better. It's puking snow out there right now.

01-10-05: I'm going to be up at the Dutch Treat in Franconia a couple times this week. The first, Thursday, is the open mic one-year-anniversary party. I don't know how it goes where you are, faithful reader, but up in this area it's a heck of an accomplishment keeping an open mic night going for a full year. Kudos to those guys for keeping the music going.
As a matter of fact, I'll be the featured artist there this Saturday for The Last Run, their weekend apres-ski special. I don't have a lot of details on it, but it runs from 3:30pm to 6pm, and I'll be playing music for it.

Playing at the Cabot was fun. Good people up there. Jeremy Dean joined me for the Friday night show. I got some recordings from both nights, and I'll put up some mp3s soon.
As a matter of fact, one of my looming recording projects was a Barenaked Ladies coverfight proposed by Bortwein over at SongFight. I decided to record mine live, so here then is my submission.

When I Fall (Barenaked Ladies cover)

Recorded live at the Cabot Motor Inn, 01/08/05

All fine and good, but I'm late on another recording project. My Gift Of Music submission was due yesterday. This is my next order of business, and I hope the recipient of my song isn't too heartbroken in the meantime. Hang in there, dude!

01-07-05: Tonight and tomorrow I'm playing at the Cabot Motor Inn. We just got some snow, so it should be a good weekend, what with all the snowmobilers in the area.
I also just booked a couple apres-ski afternoon shows at the Dutch Treat in Franconia, NH. I love that place. Man, do they make a good pizza. Check the Shows page for dates and details.

01-05-05: I just added a few new dates to the calendar. The first part of 2005 is filling up quickly. Two days ago I was visiting Mapquest to figure out where my next show was, when I thought to myself, "Hey, does this mean I'm finally a rockstar?" Then I snapped out of it.
I've been getting the itch to do some recording lately, but I can't seem to get my equipment out of the car long enough. I'm always packed up to go play or practice somewhere. I have a couple looming project deadlines though, so I'll be making time in the near future to put some tracks down. Maybe I can squeeze in a new Album-A-Day while I'm at it.

01-03-05: What a weekend. Both Saturday shows were a blast. And my voice actually held up through it all. Good thing, because I'm right back in action this Friday and Saturday. I'm doing two solo shows at the Cabot Motor Inn.
In other news, I LOVE MY NEW GUITAR. It sounds better than my old Washburn, and it's much more comfortable to play. Plus, it's got a built-in tuner and EQ unit. It's not the most sophisticated instrument out there, but it's just perfect for what I'm doing.

01-01-05: I hope everyone had a Happy New Year! The show at Walter's Basin was a blast. It ended up being SIX hours, because there were a good number of people there by six o'clock. But I didn't have to repeat much material, except for the occasional request for a song I'd already played. In a place like that, though, people come in and out pretty quickly, so not many folks had to hear the same song twice. Except for the staff, I guess.
I'm feeling pretty good this morning, so I'm going to make the trip up to Wildcat Mountain in a couple hours. The Jeremy Dean band is so much fun to play with, I'd hate to miss it. Then it's off to Bridgewater to play a show tonight with Rick Clogston and the Red Hat Band. Fortunately, I don't have to do much singing at either show; I'm a little hoarse right now. But what fun! I wish every weekend were like this one.
