07-27-04: I'm taking a break from recording, and preparing for my upcoming show at the Sunset Grill. Also, I've been providing 'light entertainment' on Tuesdays at the Plymouth Congregational Church, as part of the Meals For Many program there. If you're in town and you're hungry, stop down from 12:00 to 1:00, get some lunch, and listen to some music. I ate there many times myself when I was fresh out of high school, so I'm real pleased to have an opportunity to give something back.

No Limits might be at the Paradise Beach Club this Thursday; apparently it's still up in the air. More news as it becomes available.
UPDATE: The No Limits show on Thursday has, indeed, been cancelled. I'm going to see if I can get the guitarist in the band (Steve Hinchey) to make a guest appearance at my Sunset Grill show this Saturday.

07-24-04: And so we reach the end of the Marathon Songs project. My last piece is Closing Day, and it's an idea I got at the end of the Weirs Beach season last year.
Quite a project, this. I'll re-visit a lot of these, tightening up recordings and whatnot. I think I might just drop back to SongFighting after this; one song a week will be a nice change of pace for a while.
Oh, but there IS another project going on: CoverFight. I've been assigned a song by the incredible Dylan Nau to cover. It's gonna be a blast. I'll let you know more about it as it takes shape.
07-23-04: Last night's show went well. There was a decent crowd, and they were running Miller Lite and Jagermeister promos, so things were pretty interesting. I didn't get to partake in either of them, personally; too busy playing.
As a result of last night's gig, I don't have today's Marathon Songs entry done yet. I'll try my damnedest to get it done and up before midnight. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: Song 15 is done, and none too soon. It's an instrumental piece called Population: Zero.
07-22-04: Marathon Songs, day 14. Today's song, like my day 3 submission Bacon Wine, is really from an idea that predates this challenge. But this is the song in its first real form as a song. I'll most likely do some re-working of this one, and I may have to lose the Dan Quayle sample, but I just couldn't resist. Check out Election Day.
No Limits is playing TONIGHT at the Paradise Beach Club. Actually, we're going to be there just about every Thursday from now to October. Stop by, have a beer, get some great food, and listen to classic rock. You can't tell me you have better plans than that on a THURSDAY.
07-21-04: I'm still working on my song for day 13 of Marathon Songs. I'll try to have it up before the day is done.
In other news, I've got a solo show coming up at the Sunset Grill in Campton, NH on Saturday, July 31. It'll be a real change of pace, becuase I've written almost a full night's worth of new material since the last time I was there. Not all of my new compositions are applicable to my live set, but quite a few of them are. It should mix things up nicely. Come on by if you're in the area.
UPDATE: Here's my song for the day. Dizzy Spells happens to be one of the upcoming SongFight titles, so I'll most likely submit it there as well. Hooray for duplicity!
07-20-04: Welcome to day 12 of the Marathon Songs challenge. Today's song is Don't Feed The Trolls. Dig it. A lesson for the ages.
07-19-04: Marathon Songs day 11. No kazoo today, but you just watch out. This one's a little jazz throwaway called I Feel Like Eight Bucks. This one is inspired by a one-month stay in Spokane with my friend Jay. One morning he woke up, looked around our trashed one-room apartment, squinted out at the city, and said "I feel like eight bucks". What a great way to start the day.
In other news, the Paradise Beach Club has contacted No Limits to see if we can play this Thursday, and we gladly accepted. So those of you who were disappointed at last Thursday's cancellation can still get your dose of classic rock and roll. Plus, the boneless buffalo chicken plate is my favorite in the area; I get it every time we go there. Come on down!
07-18-04: So, you'd think I'd use the weekend to get ahead in this Marathon Songs challenge. Instead, I'm using it to barely stay afloat. My day 10 entry is a song called The Button. Maybe tonight I can actually write something for tomorrow. Last week I was right on top of it, but I'm slipping a bit.
Yesterday at the Vintage Fret Shop I also picked up a kazoo. I haven't recorded anything with it yet, but beware. The thing has the subtlety of a bagpipe, so I don't know if I'll be able to work it in. Nonetheless, consider yourselves warned.
07-17-04: Day 9 of Marathon Songs was a busy one. I didn't have much time for anything, but I did get out to the Vintage Fret Shop to buy a slide. I don't really know how to use it yet, so I recorded a song with it anyway. Here then is My Whole Hard Drive Is Gone. Enjoy!

07-16-04: We've reached the halfway point in the Marathon Songs project. Today's song title was suggested by fellow SongFighter (and Marathonner) Johnny Cashpoint. Here for your listening pleasure is Baby, That's How Wars Get Started.

07-15-04: Day 7 of the Marathon Songs project. My song for today is Eagle Seven.
Tonight I'll be at the Paradise Beach Club on Weirs Beach with the band No Limits. I'm sure you're enjoying all this original material I've been posting, but if you're itching to hear some good old classic guitar rock covers, then hit the Weirs and check us out.
UPDATE: Tonight's show has been CANCELLED. Apologies to anyone who made plans. :(
07-14-04: Marathon Songs day six. This is getting tough. But we'll make it! Today's song is another instrumental, a little impression called Ecstacy.
07-13-04: I'm still going! My fifth entry in the Marathon Songs challenge is a piece inspired by (but thankfully not about) a good friend of mine. The song is called Textbook Case.
The next few days will be tricky, as I have some extra time commitments to work around. Not least of which is the Thursday night appearance of No Limits at the Paradise Beach Club. I won't be getting any new recording done that night for sure. But I've got an extra song in the can now, and if I can get through to the weekend I'll be fine.
There's several of us still running in this little challenge; if you haven't done so, you might want to check out their progress on the official Marathon Songs page.
07-12-04: Marathon Songs marches on. Today's piece is an instrumental. Behold The Livermore Stomp.
If you hadn't yet noticed, there's links to all my Marathon Songs pieces on the rightmost panel. We're a quarter of the way through now; still a long way to go. I'm in for the full duration, though. Tune in again tomorrow.
In other news, I've submitted a song to Garageband.com (finally). I tried this a few months ago, but they had a problem encoding my mp3 file for streaming. This one seems to have worked okay, so pop on over there for a strong dose of duplicity. There's a link on the leftmost panel.
Also, I booked a solo show at the Sunset Grill on Saturday, July 31. The usual deal; 9pm to 12am, 21 or older, and random support musicians might show up. I have a lot more original material now than I did the last time I was there, so I'm looking forward to this one. Come on down!
07-11-04: Song number three in my Marathon Songs series is a decided departure of form. I must confess that the idea behind this song is one from some time ago; it was a challenge by a friend of mine to write a song for this title. But I still felt it valid to produce as part of this project, and damned if I'll apologize for it. Heh. The song is called Bacon Wine, and it's a cautionary tale about alcohol and its effects on famous inventors throughout history. Possibly the most peculiar song I've written, conceptually, at least. The music is pretty straightforward, so tap your toes to the nonsense!
07-10-04: My second Marathon Songs piece is done. It's called Everyone's Going Away, and it sort of expands on ideas from the first song. I'm feeling the itch to do something more upbeat now, so expect a change of pace tomorrow.
07-09-04: Here, at the last minute, is my first piece for the Marathon Songs project. It's called Tuesday Morning. It's kind of a rough recording, but the song is there, and I can put some more time into it when the Marathon is over. For now, though, it's back to the boards, because here comes day 2!
