12-31-04: The Jim Tyrrell New Year's tour begins now. Actually, it began last night, with a visit to the Dutch Treat in
Franconia for their open mic night. At 7pm tonight I'll be performing at Walter's Basin in Holderness, NH. It's a little rainy here in
New Hampshire, so skip the standing outside for New Year's and come on in and listen to some music. You'll catch your death out there.
Tomorrow (New Year's Day) features a trip to Wildcat Mountain to sit in with the Jeremy Dean Band in the afternoon, and then a quick jaunt down to
Bridgewater to play with the Red Hat Band at the Bridgewater Inn. The day after that, I'll probably sleep straight through until Monday.
Tonight is my first show with my new guitar, which I got for Christmas. It's an Ovation Celebrity. Not the fanciest git-fiddle in the world, but a lot
better than what I was using before. Hooray!
Anyway, if I don't see you tonight, have a happy and safe New Year, and I'll talk to you in '05. | 12-22-04: Happy Holidays, loyal listeners. Here's a couple renditions I recorded quickly last night.
| 12-21-04: Recently a bunch of SongFighters recorded covers of songs by 15-16 Puzzle. I did a version of his song Cancer. You
can check out all the covers (and the original 15-16 versions) right over here.
In other news, I booked a show at the Sunset Grill here in Campton on March 26. It'll be nice to play locally again; most of the shows I'm doing lately
are at least a half hour from home. But hey, at least I'm busy. No complaints! Check out the Shows page for dates and times. | 12-14-04: The details have been worked out, and the New Year's show is official. On December 31 I'll be playing a
five-hour show at Walter's Basin in Holderness, NH. This isn't the longest show I've done; I once played a six-hour New Year's gig at Maxwell
Silverman's in Worcester. And back then I didn't even play guitar, it was all piano stuff. I'm quite looking forward to this one, because I'll get to dust off
a lot of material I don't normally play. I'll be set up in the corner of the dining area, and I'll be playing from 7pm to midnight. If you haven't yet made plans but you
don't want to deal with the cold and the crowds, Walter's Basin should be a comfortable, low-key way to ring in the New Year. | 12-09-04: A good solid winter cold has shut me down this week. But I'm slowly coming out of it, and just in time for
a two-day engagement at Goodfella's on Fri/Sat, the 10th and 11th. It feels like forever since we've been there, probably because I wrote a
freakin' novel in between. I'm still coughing up junk, so I'll probably take it easy the first night. Fortunately, I'm in charge of the set lists, so
I can plan accordingly.
I think I've got a New Year's Eve show lined up. I'll get the full details on Monday, and if it all goes through I'll pass along the info then.
Oh, and in completely unrelated news, I'm going to Fermentation Station in Meredith tomorrow
to bottle the wine I've been making. We're giving it to family and friends as Xmas gifts, and it's going to be great. As soon as we finish
this batch, I'll probably start another just to have around. And for the price, the yield from the kits is really good; about 26 full-size bottles of wine. Sweet. |
